2024 U.S. Open odds, predictions, picks: Scottie Scheffler projection by golf model that nailed last 2 majors (2024)

Fresh off a victory in the Memorial Tournament, Scottie Scheffler enters the 2024 U.S. Open on the kind of run that hasn't been seen in golf since Tiger Woods' heyday. Thus, it comes as no surprise that Scheffler's 2024 U.S. Open odds of 4-1 are the lowest since Woods was at 7-4 at the 2009 U.S. Open. Only Rory McIlroy at 9-1 has single-digit U.S. Open odds 2024 besides Scheffler for the third major of the year, which begins on Thursday from Pinehurst No. 2. If Scheffler can prevail at the U.S. Open 2024, he will become the first golfer since Jordan Spieth in 2015 to win this major and the Masters in the same year.

The year's other major winner, PGA champion Xander Schauffele, is 10-1 in the 2024 U.S. Open field. Defending champion Wyndham Clark is a 22-1 long shot, while Spieth (35-1) is an even bigger underdog to get his first major victory in seven years. Before locking in your 2024 U.S. Open picks or Scottie Scheffler props, be sure tosee the golf predictions and projected leaderboard from the proven computer model at SportsLine.

Our proprietary model, built by DFS pro Mike McClure, has been red-hot since the PGA Tour resumed in June of 2020. In fact, the model is up almost $9,000 on its best bets since the restart, nailing tournament after tournament.

McClure's model correctly predicted Scottie Scheffler would finish on top of the leaderboard at the 2024 Masters, the Arnold Palmer Invitational, and The Players Championship this season. McClure also included Hideki Matsuyama in his best bets to win the 2024 Genesis Invitational. That bet hit at +9000, and for the entire tournament, McClure's best bets returned nearly $1,000.

The model also predicted Jon Rahm would be victorious at the 2023 Sentry Tournament of Champions and The American Express. At the 2023 Masters, the model was all over Rahm's second career major victory heading into the weekend. Rahm was two strokes off the lead heading into the third round, but the model still projected him as the winner. It was the second straight Masters win for the model, which also nailed Scheffler winning in 2022.

This same model has also nailed a whopping 12 majors entering the weekend, including three straight Masters and the 2024 PGA Championship. Anyone who has followed it has seen massive returns.

Now with the U.S. Open 2024 field taking shape, SportsLine simulated the tournament 10,000 times, and the results were surprising. Head to SportsLine now to see the projected leaderboard.

Top 2024 U.S. Open predictions

One major surprise: Justin Thomas, a 33-1 longshot, makes a strong run at the title. He's a target for anyone looking for a huge payday. Thomas' first major start came at Pinehurst at the 2014 U.S. Open, when he was 21 years old and qualified via a sectional regional. He didn't even have his PGA Tour card and missed the cut at the major, but also gained invaluable experience with the course. That should serve him well for this year's tournament, as should his solid play this year on tour. In fact, he sits 14th in the FedEx Cup standings after finishing 71st last season.

Thomas entered the Memorial with three straight top-25s, including two of those being top 10 finishes. His scoring average (adjusted) ranks 11th on the PGA Tour, and just six golfers are averaging more birdies per round than the two-time major winner. He's excelling in both the long and short games, ranking 19th in total driving efficiency and 10th in strokes gained: around-the-green. Given his past major success and the rebound in his play this season, it's surprising that there are 14 golfers with shorter 2024 U.S. Open odds, so Thomas is a steal for PGA bets.

The model has also examined where Scottie Scheffler finishes. Scheffler's dominant 2024 PGA Tour season includes four victories, seven top-3 finishes and a top-10 in 11 of his 12 starts. He's on pace to set PGA Tour single-season records in scoring average (67.5), birdie average (5.3) and bogey avoidance (8.8%). He is No. 1 in the Official World Golf Ranking and FedEx Cup standings.

From the 2023 PGA Championship to the 2024 U.S. Open, a span of six majors, Scheffler has been favored five times. Yet, he's won just one major over that span. He seemingly always finds a way to be in contention at majors, but that level of dominance he displays in non-majors hasn't translated into major championships.
